Old Game Search Engine Suggestions Screenshot
Suggestions now shown…

Some updates have been added to the search engine’s code.

You can now use phonetic search instead of exact matching for when you can’t spell the game’s name correctly. Also, if this fails, suggestions will be shown most of the time.

The engine will now also search for some known aliases (eg: “4” -> “IV”, “4DS” -> “4D Sports”).

Some queries were returning even more than 10,000 results, so I’ve limited the maximum to 500 to reduce stress on the server.

The number of indexed sites is approaching 40, with over 70,000 available results which could be more because about 4,000 had to be removed (they are still sold).

Soon, more platforms will be added, stay tuned.

Back in about the year 2000 I made my first Perl script. It was an abandonware search engine which ran from the cgi-bin directory and its database was simply a text file which I updated by hand.

Today I’m launching a much improved version (no Perl involved :P), which is fully automated.

If you find bugs, let me know.

You can use it here.
